Preliminary Task: School Magazine
My preliminary task was to make a front cover and a context page mock up for a school for my front cover I have to use a medium shot and only one student, In order to prepare me for my Main task to prepare myself for making a Front cover and content page for a music magazine using original images.
What I did first was figuring out who my magazine was aimed at. My target audience for my school magazine is year 6s, parents, teacher and students of the school. Also I designed the mock-up for the school magazine contents page first. I did the preliminary task to prepare myself for the real contents page of my main task, producing a music magazine I wanted to get a reality view of my music magazine. The title of my school magazine is E.B.C which is short for East Brook Comprehensive. I chose this title because I wanted it to be easily remembered because abbreviations are easily remembered, also the full name of my school is Eastbrook Comprehensive school which is too long for the title of my magazine also its harder to say. E.B.C is much easier. My tagline for my magazine is “let’s change the future” I chose this magazine because it’s highly optimistic and promising, also it shows the Eastbrook is determined to help their students for future generations. I then decided what distinguishes Eastbrook school from other schools is because of the facilities, does it have a speciality? Like for example Robert clack is known for its good quality in science subjects. What I chose to distinguish Eastbrook School from other schools is the special bond the students have with the head teacher. As most students never feel at ease with a head teacher they fear them instead, I wanted the school in my magazine to be the opposite of that.

Front Cover
Originally I had wanted a different picture on the front cover the picture I wanted was the head teacher with the students around her all smiling. I wanted this picture because the connotations behind the picture is that the students and the head teacher have a good relationship which is very important in a school. But then I realised the picture wasn’t answering the question. As I would have to get a long shot to fit all the people in the picture but the task required is a medium shot and their should be only one student in the shot. So then I thought in a medium shot, the background is really important as it gives of implicit messages. The implicit messages I wanted to give off is studying. So a common place where people study is in a library. So the picture I took for my front cover is an ms shot of sixth former in the library the bookshelf in the background. The sixth former is wearing a tie and a shirt and reading a book named “big cats” the way my media product represents my person on the front cover wasn’t very good as the book as it shows that person is quite childish. But on the other hand the connotations behind this picture could be the person is quite creative and the school is open to individuals. Also the shirt and tie represents the person as responsible and mature.
